Ponies In-Hand Section

 

All entries must be registered in their respective stud books, and both the breed and registration number must be given on their Entry Forms. Brood mares must be four years old or over. Foals must accompany mares in the ring and be at least three weeks old on the day of the show. Stallions and colts two years and over must have a Ministry of Agriculture, breed society or N.P.S. stallion licence. For Dales, Dartmoor, Exmoor, Highland, Shetland & Welsh this rule is extended to three years old and over.

WELSH PONIES

PART-BRED

JUDGE: MRS. N. CLAYTON, Yorks

  • Class 1 PART-BRED WELSH PONY 4 years old and over, any sex.
  • Class 2 PART-BRED WELSH PONY 3 years old and under, any sex.
  • CHAMPIONSHIP: The Welsh Pony and Cob Society offer a special rosette to the Champion.
  • CHAMPIONSHIP: CHAMPION AND RESERVE CHAMPION ROSETTES

WELSH COB / WELSH PONIES (COB TYPE)

JUDGE: MRS. N. CLAYTON, Yorks

  • Class 3 WELSH COB. For the best Welsh Cob C or D. Stallion or Gelding, any age.
  • Class 4 WELSH COB. For the best Welsh Cob C or D. Mare or Filly, any age.
  • CHAMPIONSHIP: CHAMPION AND RESERVE CHAMPION ROSETTES

WELSH SECTION A

JUDGE: MRS. N. CLAYTON, Yorks

  • Class 5 WELSH MOUNTAIN STALLION OR COLT, 2 years or over.
  • Class 6 WELSH MOUNTAIN MARE OR GELDING , 4 years old or over, with or without foal at foot.
  • SPECIAL: Rosette and £10 for the best foal
  • Class 7 WELSH MOUNTAIN COLT, FILLY OR GELDING yearling.
  • Class 8 WELSH MOUNTAIN FILLY OR GELDING 2 or 3 year old.
  • CHAMPIONSHIP: CHAMPION AND RESERVE CHAMPION ROSETTES
  • The Champion to receive the W.P.C.S. CHAMPIONSHIP MEDAL
  • TROPHY H1: The Staley Rose Bowl, presented by Mrs. Staley and Mrs. Greatorex in memory of the late Bill Staley, to the best Welsh mountain pony exhibited by a member of the Leicestershire Agricultural Society residing in Leicestershire. To be held for one year only. Those eligible for this award will be judged after the Section A Championship and must wear a blue armband during judging of the classes. Rosettes already awarded to be worn.

W.P.C.S. Medals will only be awarded to animals whose owners are Members of the W.P.C.S., who have paid their subscriptions for the current year or are life members. Or who have submitted their name for membership and paid one annual subscription of Life membership composition. Owners who are not currently members will be allowed 14 days after the receipt of the catalogue to join the Society. In the case of an animal not registered at the time of entry at the show at which a medal is competed for, application for registration or entry on the Appendix must be made within one month of the date of the show, otherwise the medal will not be awarded.

 

WELSH SECTION B

JUDGE: MRS. N. CLAYTON, Yorks

  • Class 9 WELSH STALLION OR COLT, 2 years or over.
  • Class 10 WELSH PONY MARE OR GELDING, 4 years or over, with or without foal at foot.
  • SPECIAL: Rosette and £10 for the best foal.
  • Class 11 WELSH PONY COLT, FILLY OR GELDING yearling.
  • Class 12 WELSH PONY, FILLY OR GELDING, 2 or 3 years old.
  • CHAMPIONSHIP: CHAMPION AND RESERVE CHAMPION ROSETTES
  • The Champion to receive the W.P.C.S. CHAMPIONSHIP MEDAL

 

 

SUPREME WELSH-IN-HAND CHAMPIONSHIP

 

The Champion and Reserve Champion Ponies from Section A, Section B and the winner of the Champion Welsh Cob to compete.

  • SUPREME CHAMPION & RESERVE SUPREME CHAMPION ROSETTES
  • TROPHY H2: The Mansfield Supreme Championship Trophy kindly presented by Mrs. E. Mansfield of the Rotherwood Stud to the Supreme Welsh Champion for one year only

The Champion and Reserve Champion from the Pure-Bred Sections will compete for the Leicestershire Agricultural Society Supreme Mountain and Moorland Championship later in the day. All eligible ponies must compete or they may forfeit their prize money. The Part-Bred Welsh Class Champion will not compete.

 

SHETLAND PONY

  • Class 13 SHETLAND PONY, STALLION OR COLT
  • Class 14 SHETLAND PONY COLT, FILLY OR GELDING yearling.
  • Class 15 SHETLAND PONY MARE OR GELDING, 4 years or over.
  • Class 16 SHETLAND PONY FILLY OR GELDING, 2 or 3 years old.

  • TROPHY H3: The Barrowby Perpetual Challenge Cup kindly presented by the late Mrs. Tonge for the Champion.

 

MOUNTAIN AND MOORLAND (In Hand)

  • Class 17 FELL, DALES OR HIGHLAND PONY, 4 years old and over, any sex.
  • SPECIAL: The Fell Pony Society offer a Rosette for the Best Registered Fell Pony. (Exhibitor must be a member of F.P.S.)
  • TROPHY H4: The Wolds Tankard kindly presented by Miss J. Glass for the best Fell Pony.
  • SPECIAL: The Highland Pony Society offer a Rosette for the highest placed Highland Pony. (Exhibitor must be a member of the H.P.S.)
  • SPECIAL: The Dales Pony Society offer a Rosette for the Best Registered Dales Pony.( Exhibitor must become a member of D.P. S.)
  • TROPHY H5: The Highland Cup, won outright by the late Mrs O. Allonby in 1972, re-presented to the Society to be awarded to the exhibitor of the best in-Hand Highland Pony.
  • Class 18 CONNEMARA OR NEW FOREST PONY, 4 years old and over, any sex.
  • SPECIAL: The English Connemara Pony Society offer a Special Rosette to the Best Registered Connemara Pony, (Exhibitor must be a member of E.C.P.S.)
  • SPECIAL: The New Forest Breeding Society offer a Rosette to the best registered NF pony.
  • Class 19 EXMOOR OR DARTMOOR PONY, 4 years old and over, any sex.
  • SPECIAL: The Dartmoor Pony Society offer a Rosette for the Best Registered Dartmoor Pony (exhibitor must be a member of D.P.S.) in Class 19.
  • SPECIAL: The Exmoor Pony Society offer a special Rosette for the Best Exmoor Pony (exhibitor must be a member of E.P.S.) in Class 19.
  • TROPHY H6: The Wynhill Perpetual Challenge Trophy for the best Dartmoor mare in Class 19.
  • Class 20 MOUNTAIN & MOORLAND PONY, 3 years old and under, any sex, for Exmoor or Dartmoor.
  • Class 21 MOUNTAIN & MOORLAND PONY, 3 years old and under, any sex, for Connemara or New Forest.
  • Class 22 MOUNTAIN & MOORLAND PONY, 3 years old and under, any sex, for Fell, Dales or Highland.
  • CHAMPIONSHIP: 1st & 2nd prize winners from classes 17 to 22 to compete.
  • CHAMPIONSHIP: CHAMPION AND RESERVE CHAMPION ROSETTES
  • TROPHY H7: The Townend Holly IV Perpetual Challenge Trophy kindly presented by the Paterson Family to the Champion.


THE LEICESTERSHIRE AGRICULTURALSOCIETY
SUPREME MOUNTAIN & MOORLAND CHAMPIONSHIP

 

All the Champion and Reserve Champion Ponies from the Mountain and Moorland Breed Sections will take part in the Leicestershire Agricultural Society Supreme Championship after these Classes have taken place. The Supreme Champion and Reserve Supreme Champion will qualify for the GLYN GREENWOOD Mountain and Moorland In-Hand Championship, to be held at the Ponies (UK) Championship Summer Show

To be judged by MRS. N. CLAYTON, MR. P.J. TINDALE, & MRS. K. SWINNERTON. (Approximate time anticipated to be 3.00 pm or when all relevant sections have finished.)

  • Supreme Champion Rosette & £20, Reserve Supreme Champion Rosette & £10.
  • TROPHY H8: The Crosher Perpetual Trophy to the Supreme Champion.


BUCKLAND-LARGE

MOUNTAIN AND MOORLAND (Ridden)

JUDGE: MRS J ETHERIDGE, Suffolk

Prize money: 1st £10, 2nd £8, 3rd £6, 4th £5, 5th £3, 6th £2 (depending on entries)

  • Class 23 BUCKLAND-LARGE MOUNTAIN & MOORLAND RIDDEN CLASS, stallion, mare or gelding, 4 years old and over, registered in the Stud Books of Welsh A & B Dart moor, Exmoor, or Shetland. Rider any age.
  • Class 24 BUCKLAND-LARGE MOUNTAIN & MOORLAND RIDDEN CLASS, stallion, mare or gelding, 4 years old and over, registered in the Stud Books of Welsh C & D. Rider any age.
  • Class 25 BUCKLAND-LARGE MOUNTAIN AND MOORLAND RIDDEN CLASS stallion, mare or gelding, 4 years old and over registered in the stud book of Connemara, New Forest, Dales, Fell or Highland. Rider any age.
  • CHAMPIONSHIP: CHAMPION AND RESERVE CHAMPION ROSETTES
  • SPECIAL:Champion and Reserve Champion will qualify for the Ponies UK Kingsford Ridden M & M of the Year Championship.
    TROPHY H9: The Olwen Allonby Trophy to be awarded for the best ridden highland pony, kindly presented by her many friends and colleagues at her riding school. Blue armband to be worn.

 

  • Class 26 BUCKLAND-LARGE Lobster Pot MOUNTAIN & MOORLAND LEADING REIN CHAMPIONSHIP. Mare or gelding, 4 years and over, not exceeding 122 cm, registered in the breed society stud books of Shetland, Dartmoor, Exmoor, New Forest and Welsh A or B. Riders not to have attained their 9th birthday before 1st January in the current year. The 1st prize winner will qualify. To be led by an attendant and shown in a snaffle bridle.
  • Class 27 BUCKLAND-LARGE Brineton MOUNTAIN & MOORLAND FIRST RIDDEN CLASS. Mare or gelding, 4 years old and over, not exceeding 128 cm., registered in the respective breed society stud books of Shetland, Dartmoor, Exmoor, New Forest and Welsh A or B. Any suitable bridle acceptable. Riders not to have attained their 12th birthday before 1st January in the current year. The 1st prize winner will qualify.
