The Society was formed in 1833 by a group of Leicestershire farmers to promote improvements in agriculture and we have continued over the years to keep these ideals alive. The Show has taken place all over the County but for many of its early years it took place on Victoria Park, Leicester. The 2006 Show will be held at the Melton Mowbray Airfield. The Society became Ltd. on 1st Decembr 2003. The Society has catalogues dating back to 1894 and an example of one of the classes, which we no longer but which you may find of interest is given below:
Class 5. By His Grace the Duke of Rutland, K.G.
To the Farm Labourer, whether married or single, who has worked the longest time without intermission, on the same farm, or with the same master or mistress, and who has never received parish relief except in sickness, and the amount so received shall be stated in the claim. Prize money: 1st to 3rd: £3 0s 0d. £2 0s 0d. £1 0s 0d.
